MITCHELL — The Shingle Fire has shown no new growth for the third consecutive day, according to an Aug. 7 update by fire managers. Along Highway 26, crews are strengthening existing containment lines and extending mop-up operations. Firefighters around Kangaroo Basin are conducting systematic grid searches to locate and extinguish remaining hot spots, ensuring containment lines remain secure. This careful removal of fuel from the fire front helps to ensure those lines remain secure. Weather is forecasted to remain hot and very dry, causing vegetation to be receptive to fire.
