In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month this August, the Georgia Department of Public Health’s South Health District is encouraging people of all ages to stay current on vaccines as a simple and effective way to protect their health. “Keeping up with recommended immunizations throughout life is a simple step that can help protect you, your family, and those around you.” From flu season in the fall to travel in the summer, vaccines help prevent the spread of illness and reduce the risk of serious complications. You don’t outgrow the need for vaccines: Adults need vaccines too, including protection against shingles, pneumonia, and the flu. Vaccines protect others: When you get vaccinated, you also help protect people around you, especially babies, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems.
