Authorities have identified the woman found hanging from a tree behind a vacant west Jackson home on Monday as 29-year-old Tasia Fortune. Neighbors discovered Fortune’s body in the 500 block of Road of Remembrance, a predominantly Black neighborhood, and immediately summoned law enforcement. Her body has been sent to the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. We are not able to release any information regarding this case at this time,” Jackson Police Department public information officer Tommie Brown stated in an email. Her sister, LaToni Fortune, told reporters she last saw Tasia last month when she returned to Kentucky to visit family.
