Just how close is Adley Rutschman to returning to big league action?
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy provided a promising indication when asked if it’s possible the new trade acquisition could start a rehab assignment this weekend.
The three-time All-Star, who was acquired by the Red Sox from the Baltimore Orioles at Monday’s trade deadline, has been on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation since July 20.
Following his arrival Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow declined to put a timetable on his return until Rutschman had been examined by the club’s medical staff, and following that appointment Tracy said everything was trending in the right direction.
Once Rutschman starts a rehab assignment he would need to be activated within 20 days, which barring any setbacks would likely see him make his Red Sox debut by the end of August at the latest.
