The FDA approved Moderna’s first mRNA flu vaccine for older adults at higher risk of infection.
“The FDA approval of mFLUSIVA, our fourth approved product in the United States and the first mRNA-based flu vaccine, demonstrates the continued strength and versatility of our mRNA platform,” said Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna.
Moderna tested the vaccine in 40,805 adults in that age range across 11 countries.
The company can produce the vaccine in two to three months, making it available for the upcoming flu season.
Earlier this year, the FDA, which operates under HHS, declined to review the mRNA flu shot before changing course about two weeks later.
