Türkiye becomes the driving force behind Syria’s reconstructionThe fall of Syria’s long-entrenched political order has ushered in a new phase of regional diplomacy, security realignment and economic reconstruction. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s government has therefore made Syria’s reconstruction a central pillar of its foreign policy. This military engagement became institutionalized following the signing of a bilateral military cooperation agreement in August 2025. Beyond addressing immediate energy shortages, the arrangement highlights Türkiye’s emerging role as a vital energy transit hub connecting regional producers with Syria’s reconstruction needs. Taken together, developments across the security, economic, diplomatic and educational sectors suggest that Türkiye has become the central organizing force behind Syria’s post-war recovery.
