The government is moving closer to achieving universal secondary education in Guyana with significant progress on the construction of the $2.6 billion Hosororo Secondary School in Region One. The school is designed to accommodate more than 500 students, including those currently attending the Hosororo Primary Top and the Wauna Primary Top, providing them with expanded access to quality secondary education closer to their communities. The institution officially began a phased intake on January 20, 2026, welcoming its first cohort of students following the completion of the main teaching block. To support students travelling from remote communities, the school will also include dormitories capable of accommodating approximately 350 students. The Hosororo Secondary School represents another major investment and reaffirms the government’s commitment to ensuring every child, regardless of geographic location, has access to quality education.
