A licensing application has been submitted to extend the premises license of the Blue Boar pub on Victoria Avenue to allow it to sell alcohol from 1am to 6am daily.
The application outlines the pub will not be open at these hours, instead the license would allow it to operate a telephone-based delivery service, with delivery drivers trained in age-verification to operate a Challenge-25 policy.
The operators of the pub, known as the birthplace of Southend United, said the new delivery service would provide a service to "responsible" people who wanted to drink after its closing hours - with deliveries reducing the temptation to get behind the wheel.
A spokesperson for the Blue Boar said: "It’s basically getting drinks to responsible people that indulge after hours at home which helps with limiting drunk driving.
A final decision on the licensing application will be made by Southend Council, residents are able to submit representations on the application until September 1 this year.
