A spokesman for HM Coastguard Southend On Sea said: "Earlier today, emergency calls were made by various members of public over concerns for a small lost puppy that had escaped from a nearby garden and had found itself near Southend Pier at low tide."
As the tide began to rise, the dog was forced to move inland and was rescued from the water by officers who had already deployed water rescue equipment.
