Authorities in Chadiza District have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening support systems for breastfeeding mothers, as the world commemorates World Breastfeeding Week. “Some mothers stop exclusive breastfeeding too early because of misinformation, pressure to introduce other foods, work commitments or inadequate family and community support,” he said. The Acting DC noted that challenges such as myths, marketing of breast milk substitutes, and lack of support at workplaces are affecting breastfeeding practices. He however said the district has made progress through health facilities, outreach services, Safe Motherhood Action Groups and community nutrition support groups. “With this said, I call on employers to create breastfeeding-friendly workplaces to help mothers continue breastfeeding after returning to work,” he said.
