Most Minnesotans know by now that our state is facing an influx of hyperscale data centers. There aren’t many things uniting Americans these days, but one of them is concern about the risks of hyperscale data centers. That’s why the MCEA has, with the support of communities across the state, challenged multiple poor environmental studies of hyperscale data center proposals. With this much on the line, environmental review is the bare minimum we should expect of these projects. Kathryn Hoffman is the executive officer of the nonprofit Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy (mncenter.org).
