GATES, N.Y. — Some viewers with landline phones are starting to get warned that the old system is ending. LaMonica has lived in her apartment since the 1980s and has had the same landline number ever since. On Thursday, LaMonica says a Verizon representative told her on the phone that her landline is getting discontinued and that a notice is coming. A federal decision in 2019 lets the major carriers, including Verizon, phase out old copper wire landlines and replace them with new technology.
