SHILLONG, Aug 7: The East Khasi Hills district administration has directed NHIDCL to complete a temporary diversion on the Shillong-Dawki road by Saturday and ensure it is fully safe before opening it to the public. Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said NHIDCL is currently cutting through rocks to create a side lane for traffic movement. Merely making the stretch passable is not enough; it must be properly protected and motorable for commuters, he stressed. He noted that Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has already informed the media about close coordination between the state government and NHIDCL on the project. The district administration’s role, Baranwal said, is continuous follow-up to ensure the work is completed within the fixed timeframe.
