SHILLONG, Aug 7: Genuine Indian citizens whose names are missing from the draft electoral roll or who face additional document checks during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) need not panic, East Khasi Hills DC Abhilash Baranwal assured on Friday. The administration will “handhold” eligible electors throughout the verification process and give them adequate time to submit necessary documents, he said. The exercise aims to include every eligible Indian citizen while identifying and removing any non-citizens who may have obtained electoral documents. Baranwal attributed East Khasi Hills’ high number of proposed deletions largely to the district’s cosmopolitan character. Many central government employees obtain EPICs during postings in Shillong but fail to delete their names after transfer.
