Marak and TMC MDC Alphonsush R. Marak angrily confronted each other over a proposed amendment to restrict GHADC voting to Scheduled Tribe electors. The dramatic scenes followed heated exchanges over a proposed amendment to Rule 128 of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, which seeks to restrict voting in GHADC elections to Scheduled Tribe electors. BJP MDC Bernard N. Marak later alleged that the Williamnagar MDC spoke beyond the prescribed time while claiming credit for the proposed amendment. Following the confrontation, TMC MDC Alphonsush R. Marak said the issue should have been discussed peacefully. He added that the Chairman had announced that the proposed amendment would be taken up for discussion and consideration when the House reconvenes on Monday.
