(click to enlarge)On 30 July, an unprecedented migration crisis unfolded in the small Spanish exclave of Ceuta, an 18-square-kilometer (7-square-mile) territory on the North African coast. Rabat denies deliberately relaxing controls and has blamed the Spanish ruling, trafficking networks and misinformation. Suspicions are reinforced by the 2021 crisis, when approximately 10,000 people entered Ceuta during a diplomatic dispute between Madrid and Rabat. Israeli and pro-Israel accounts also seized on the crisis to attack Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government over its criticism of Israel. Israel and the U.S. were quick to lay blame for the crisis on Spain’s liberal migration policy.
