All week the talk had been about Wakefield Trinity and whether this could be the night they declared themselves as a Super League force in front of a sell-out crowd against Leeds Rhinos. At that stage it felt inevitable Wakefield would be going joint-top of the table with Leeds. It was Trinity who blinked, as Chris Hankinson seized on a Jake Connor kick, with Connor converting to win it. Leeds were outplayed for large stretches, with Wakefield good value for their 16-6 half-time lead. They should, however, take great pride and great heart from what they did if they meet Leeds in the playoffs.
