'Our petition has never been about opposing accessibility in River Park'

However, the organisers of the River Park Perimeter Path Petition are not asking Winchester City Council to abandon accessibility improvements.
We are simply asking for a fresh public consultation on a scheme that has changed significantly since residents were last consulted more than five years ago.
Yet residents and park users have not been told the revised cost, the final route, or whether the environmental implications of this more permanent design have been reassessed.
Indeed, the 2021 consultation identified "quieter areas with wildlife planting" as a higher priority than a "new perimeter path".
The Council's 2021 consultation attracted 580 responses, of which 394 supported a perimeter path.
