Following notification of the incident, Oriini’s office has been actively seeking information to better understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. Publicly available information indicates the worker became trapped in machinery at the processing plant shortly after 10.30pm on Tuesday evening and was pronounced deceased at the scene. “This incident is a stark reminder that every worker deserves to return home safely at the end of every shift. We owe it to workers and their whānau to ensure our workplaces are as safe as they possibly can be.” Most importantly, I hope the whānau are given the care, respect and answers they deserve during this incredibly difficult time.”
