OWIA RESIDENT CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE OFFENCESOn August 6, 2026, police arrested and charged Deroy Nero, a 46-year-old resident of Owia, with two counts of resisting arrest, two counts of assault, one count of wounding, and one count of theft. Resisted the arrest of another police officer by pulling away his hand, he being a police officer acting in the due execution of his duty. Assaulted a 31-year-old police officer of Georgetown by raising an empty Carib bottle at him with the intent to commit the offence of wounding. Nero appeared before the Mesopotamia Magistrate Court on August 7, 2026, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The matters were adjourned and transferred to the Georgetown Magistrate Court for August 24, 2026.
