Cookeville moving forward with plans for a new inclusive sports destination following the approval of state funding for a specialized soccer complex.
“I know this is going to be a wonderful thing for our community, and it’s for a wonderful reason,” Wheaton said.
Wheaton and the council unanimously approved the resolution, officially authorizing the receipt and distribution of the $500,000 grant.
The Joseph Warlick Memorial Foundation will oversee the construction of the facility, which is designed to be accessible to all youth soccer players regardless of their physical abilities.
The state funding is a direct appropriation, meaning the city serves as the pass-through entity to ensure the grant reaches the foundation for its intended purpose.
