The Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has seized 11 excavators, eight tricycles, and 32 motorbikes from illegal mining sites as part of intensified efforts to curb illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, across the region.
He said the confiscation of the mining equipment reflects the Council’s continued vigilance and proactive efforts to prevent illegal mining from taking root in the region.
Mr Akwaboa, however, stressed that the battle against illegal mining cannot be won by government agencies and the security services alone.
He said the active support and cooperation of residents in mining communities are essential to achieving lasting success in tackling the environmental degradation and social challenges associated with galamsey.
He reiterated the Council’s determination to continue pursuing measures to curb illegal mining activities and ensure that all mining operations are conducted in accordance with the law.
