Jamie was just 14 when he won the BAFTA, the same year he received the London Film Critics' Circle Award for British Newcomer of the Year, a British Independent Film Award for Best Newcomer and a Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer. Already a well established star and Oscar nominee prior to Billy Elliot, thanks to starring roles in Educating Rita and Stepping Out, Julie starred as dance teacher Mrs Wilkinson, who was determined to hone Billy's skills and take him to the top. As well as Billy Elliot, Billy also had a role in another North East based film, Purely Belter.
