Former Detective Superintendent Stuart Blaik, who led the investigation into the death of PC Harper, has told BBC Breakfast that Labour’s proposal to release two of his killers early is appalling. He said:“I was just appalled by that prospect and and just worried about the the precedent it kind of sets. Manslaughter cases vary in terms of their their seriousness, and some cases of manslaughter are very close to that of murder and that was the case here. In fact, the the trial judge, Mr. Justice Edis, who’s a a very senior High Court judge, that was his words when he was going through the sentencing process with these these three individuals…This one is is particularly difficult to understand. I think the government’s position is is one that they need to review.”
