The first major discussion, “Democracy under siege: NPP politics? ”, examined concerns over Ghana’s democratic space, political accountability and the treatment of opposition figures by state institutions. The programme also examined growing concerns about corruption and bribery under the theme “Bribery galore: Police top chart?” The discussion follows recent public concerns about bribery within state institutions and perceptions that informal payments have become increasingly entrenched in Ghanaian society. The panel examined the causes of bribery, institutional accountability and whether existing anti-corruption measures are having the desired impact.
