The ban prohibits the use of hosepipes for watering gardens, washing vehicles, cleaning patios, filling paddling pools, and similar domestic tasks. Essex and Suffolk Water said the ban is essential to maintain customer supplies and protect the environment should the dry spell persist into autumn and winter. Commercial premises are not affected by the ban, but the company is working with businesses to encourage reduced water consumption where possible.
