Ryan Orton appeared remotely before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Thursday morning.
He was supposed to be entering a plea to the charge of assaulting a police officer.
The offence is alleged to have happened on May 17 in Bury St Edmunds.
However, the 33-year-old refused to answer when the charge was put to him, talking over the court clerk and demanding to discuss other matters not relevant to the hearing.
Orton, of Mildenhall Road, Bury St Edmunds, was given several chances to engage in proceedings by magistrates, who warned him he was “digging yourself a hole”.
