Three years ago, on a rainy day in Paris, I found myself face-to-face with a little creature at La Samaritaine. Beady eyes, a bright red beak, and a compact body: it was the perfect umbrella. The umbrella in question is the Original Duckhead Compact Umbrella in Chili Red with a light maple handle. It’s a little like Mary Poppins’s parrot-head umbrella, only more streamlined, and small enough to tuck into a tote. For such a small object, it gets an outsized amount of attention.
