Behind the Bricks: IMS paint shop team keeps Speedway pristineINDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s polished appearance is the result of a year-round effort by a dedicated paint crew that helps keep the Racing Capital of the World looking its best. The crew uses about 500 gallons of paint each year to maintain the 1,000-acre facility, including racetrack walls, curbs, track surfaces and buildings. “You would never expect that we have an entire paint crew.” For NASCAR events, the crew uses water-based paint in pit lane areas to prevent lasting marks on the historic track surface. The paint crew works Monday through Friday throughout the year, ensuring IMS remains ready for fans and competitors at every major event.
