The body that enforces ethics rules for New York attorneys has apparently dropped even the pretense of political impartiality. The Attorney Grievance Committee (AGC) of the New York Supreme Court has already rejected a complaint, filed on July 2, against Roberta Kaplan, the attorney for E. Jean Carroll by the National Legal and Policy Center (NLPC). Carroll filed two lawsuits against Trump, claiming that Trump sexually assaulted her in a dressing room at Bergdorf Goodman during the 1990s. In 2020, the same AGC rejected an NLPC complaint against Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) for threatening two Supreme Court Justices, citing Schumer’s First Amendment rights. Instead, Dopico, the screening attorney, only did what he called a “review” of the complaint and a cursory one at that.
