The City of Tyler hosted its 13th annual #SchoolisCool event, where 2,000 backpacks were distributed and free resources were provided to school-aged children and their families. This year was specifically important due to rising costs of school supplies and services, Robinette said. According to Tyler ISD, 70.3% of the district’s students are classified as economically disadvantaged, creating barriers to obtaining needed school supplies. Waters said she appreciated the free school supplies and the parental resources. Robinette said overall she hopes School is Cool helps children become excited about going back to school while helping parents.
