The Oxford Municipal Court will soon have another option for supervising eligible offenders without sending them to jail after the Oxford Board of Aldermen approved an agreement last week for GPS monitoring services.
The agreement with A2i, will allow the court to use GPS monitoring for offenders placed on house arrest by the Municipal Court judge.
Municipal Court Clerk Nickie Denley said the program will provide a cost-effective alternative to incarceration while allowing the court to manage the monitoring process in-house.
“In short, this program would provide the court a cost-effective way to do GPS monitoring instead of putting people in jail,” Denley said.
Under the program, eligible offenders could be ordered to house arrest and monitored through a GPS device rather than being incarcerated.
