During the 1990s, the tech world decided cables were the bane of everyone’s existence and started trying to eradicate them. Predictably, the music industry hurled lawyers at Napster until it went bankrupt. And in 2003, Apple went properly legit, strong-arming the music industry into letting people buy individual album tracks on the iTunes Store. That was a major tech moment in itself, as media IP owners lost control over how music was packaged and sold.
