Fans waiting for Timothée Chalamet to reprise his role as Willy Wonka from the 2023 musical should prepare for disappointment. The Paul King-directed film was released to positive reviews, exploring the origins of the founder of the Wonka Chocolate Factory. In a new interview with Variety, Wonka writer Simon Farnaby gave an update on the status of its sequel. Since the publication of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the source material has been adapted several times. The first came in the form of the 1971 musical, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, starring Gene Wilder as the titular character.
