Michigan has reported 12,485 cases since June, while new case reports and diarrhea-related emergency department visits are trending downward. In Washtenaw County, 1,042 cases and 47 hospitalizations were reported from June 22 through Aug. 6. An apparent spike in cases reported Aug. 4 does not represent a sudden increase in illnesses, according to the Washtenaw County Health Department. Statewide outbreak data will now be updated weekly on Thursdays, while Washtenaw County says its local data will continue to be updated weekday mornings. Anyone experiencing sudden, ongoing diarrhea should contact a health care provider, according to the Washtenaw County Health Department.
