The United States has launched an all-out assault on the International Criminal Court (ICC). These attacks are jarring, but they are not new, are not only about Israel, and are not just coming from Republicans. The ICC has no jurisdiction over crimes committed by law enforcement officers in the United States. More revealing is Rubio’s complaint that the United States can’t “control” international law. Similarly, then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken called it “shameful” and “a profoundly wrong-headed” decision, which the United States “fundamentally rejects.”
