CARUTHERSVILLE — The Caruthersville Police Department is warning residents about an ongoing phone scam in which callers impersonate local banks to obtain personal and financial information. Several residents have reported calls claiming there is suspicious account activity, a debit card problem or another urgent banking issue. Callers then seek account and debit card numbers, PINs, Social Security numbers, online banking credentials or one-time security codes. Police said legitimate banks will not call customers and request full account information, PINs, passwords or verification codes by phone. They should contact their bank directly using the telephone number on the back of their debit card or the bank’s official website.
