The top-ranking National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award (NATSIAA), which comes with $100,000, was granted specifically to Presley’s painting Our lifestyle of tranquillity undisturbed, 2026. Presley’s oil painting draws inspiration from the Italian Renaissance painting The Annunciation by Domenico di Pace Beccafumi. Presley stated that his painting is a meditation on a passage from George Orwell’s 1984: “Who controls the past controls the future; who controls the present controls the past.” “I wanted to put in the anachronism, this mixing of timelines… a past, present and future overlay,” the artist told Guardian Australia. The Telstra Art Award, which is given annually, is presented by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) at the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) in Darwin.
