The Protectors of the Salish Sea will host the Huchoosedah Festival from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at Licton Springs Park in Seattle, on the traditional lands of the dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish) people.
The free festival will celebrate Coast Salish traditions through music, storytelling, Native flute, poetry, cedar bark weaving, plant medicine workshops, dance and a ceremonial Prayer Walk.
The festival is led by Protectors of the Salish Sea, an Indigenous-led nonprofit organization founded by Chiyokten (Paul Chiyokten Wagner), a member of the W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich) Tribe of southern Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
Organizers describe Huchoosedah as an opportunity for the community to connect with Coast Salish traditions and explore holistic well-being through cultural practices, art, music and storytelling.
The festival will feature performances by Nancy Jo Bob, Holdswatershelafue, Duwamish Welcome, Johnny Moses, Chenóa Egawa, Paul Chiyokten Wagner, Rena Priest, Pamela Seamonster (Čəlálákəm) and Kaiser Moses.
