The Toronto Caribbean Carnival will receive a $61,000 federal investment aimed at supporting local artists, performers and cultural programming as the festival prepares to celebrate its 59th year. The Toronto Caribbean Carnival has become one of the city’s major cultural events, highlighting Caribbean Canadian heritage while promoting inclusion and community connection. “The Toronto Caribbean Carnival is one of the most popular cultural events in our city and a powerful expression of the diversity that makes Toronto strong,” Bardeesy said. “This investment celebrates the extraordinary artists, performers, volunteers and cultural ambassadors who are the heart of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival.” The festival began in 1967 as Caribana, a community led celebration created during Canada’s Centennial to honour Caribbean heritage.
