The Bureau of Reclamation and Idaho Water Resource Board are making progress toward executing a comprehensive study of the Upper Snake River Basin, including exploring opportunities to increase storage. Water users had expressed interest in pursuing a basin study through Reclamation’s Water Smart grant program. The bureau on June 3 selected the proposal for development of a basin plan of study. Planning documents are due June 3, 2027, said Reclamation project manager Rebekah Triolo. The basin includes “complex interactions between surface water diversions, the ESPA, and an extensive network of canals, laterals, wells and storage reservoirs.”
