(Senate Agriculture Committee/Contributed)The Farm Bill remains stuck in the Senate Agriculture Committee, blocked by a partisan dispute over the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Committee Chairman John Boozman, R-Ark., said Democrats were fixating on a policy unrelated to agricultural production and holding hostage the Farm Bill and farmers.
The House in April passed its version of a Farm Bill, the first since 2018.
To get Democratic support for the Farm Bill, Boozman offered to move the deadline to Oct. 1, 2028.
Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, reminded senators that SNAP gives urban and suburban lawmakers a reason to care about the Farm Bill.
