AI representational photoSrinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Government has notified the Jammu and Kashmir Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules, 2026, replacing the existing licensing regime with a simplified registration system in a move aimed at reducing the regulatory burden on businesses while strengthening consumer protection. Under the new rules, manufacturers, dealers and repairers of weights and measures will no longer be required to obtain licences. ADVERTISEMENTThe rules also do away with mandatory pre-registration inspections, a measure expected to expedite approvals and lower compliance costs for businesses. ADVERTISEMENTOfficials said the reforms are intended to simplify compliance procedures while providing a clearer legal framework for enforcing standards related to weights and measures. According to officials, the notification addresses several long-pending regulatory issues and strengthens the Legal Metrology Department’s enforcement powers under the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.
