A new behind-the-scenes story has revealed why an ambitious Star Wars movie from the creative team behind Paddington never worked out. Writer Simon Farnaby recently explained why Lucasfilm passed on a pitch for a new Star Wars project by director Paul King. Speaking with Variety, Farnaby revealed that Disney and Lucasfilm once approached him and King to develop a Star Wars movie. The writer explained that their idea centered around a robot and did not feature any of “Star Wars” characters. “They were like, ‘We really need it to be a Star Wars movie,’ which is probably why it didn’t get turned into a Star Wars movie!”
