Duke missed the College Football Playoff last season despite capturing their first outright ACC Championship since 1962. An update to the College Football Playoff automatic qualifying states that the champions of each Power Four conference - SEC, Big Ten, ACC, and Big 12 - get an automatic bid to the CFP. Changes to CFP:- ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC champs are guaranteed a spot. Because a five-loss Duke team won the ACC, two of the five highest-ranked champions came from the Group of Five: Tulane and James Madison. Who knows how Duke would have performed on the road against the Ducks in the playoff.
