The defendant was last in court in June for seven more thefts and given a four-month suspended jail term. Her criminal record comprises 180 previous offences, 134 of which were thefts, the court heard. Lauren Heasley, defending, told the court: “She has been open and honest about her struggles with addiction. District Judge Philip Holden told the defendant she had “just about done enough” to save herself from an immediate jail term. As the case concluded, the District Judge told the defendant: “Take on board the assistance which is about to be given to you.”
