Nominations for Hong Kong’s powerful Election Committee will take place in October, with the vote for 982 seats of the 1,500-member body – which picks the city’s leader and some of the legislative candidates – taking place a month later.
The spokesman added that the nomination period would run from October 7 to 20, and that the chief electoral officer would publish “in due course” a notice specifying the period within which nomination forms were to be submitted.
The date of the election was earlier announced by the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau in a paper submitted to the Legislative Council in July.
The Election Committee is composed of 1,500 members from five sectors comprising 40 subsectors.
The coming vote will elect 982 members to the committee for a five-year term running from February 2027 to January 2032.
