Martyn Bell appeared before Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, where he entered a plea of not guilty to the charge of making off without payment. The court heard this refers to an unpaid bill at the restaurant Bistro on the Quay, which came to £195. It is alleged that Bell, 31 and of Ilex Close, Colchester, was eating at the restaurant with another person, a woman, who left before him. Bell is accused of then leaving the restaurant as well, after allegedly being challenged by staff, leaving the bill unpaid. He elected to stand trial by jury at Ipswich Crown Court, where he is next due to appear on September 7.
