The UK Health Security Agency alert will be in place from 9am on Saturday, August 8, until 9pm on Tuesday, August 11.
“The heat is expected to peak for much of England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland on Wednesday, with up to 34C possible in parts of central and southern England and south-east Wales.
The alert warns that high temperatures could place significant pressure on health and social care services.
It says deaths could rise, particularly among people aged 65 and over and those with pre-existing health conditions, although younger people may also be affected.
There may be increased demand for health services, while temperatures inside hospitals and care homes could exceed recommended clinical risk-assessment thresholds.
