Stevenage Borough Council’s planning committee agreed on Tuesday (August 4) to allow Enterprise Rent-A-Car to use part of the Primett Road south car park. Under council policies, planning permission that involves the loss of public car parking is approved when “it can be robustly evidenced that the parking is no longer required”. Nigel Williams, on the other hand, said that the proposal provided “an opportunity to increase the footfall in the old town”. He said: “It’s an opportunity to pretty up the Primett Road car parks which are an eyesore in our community. He continued: “I believe this application has been pre-determined and the council has shown bias in the way that it has been processed with Enterprise car rental.”
